Newsday's still up and reporting. We lost power and water for over a week after one storm, but that's nothing compared to what you guys are facing. This is incredible.

Gusts to 90 mph at Islip...80 mph at JFK. Storm surge will be peaking within the next 2 hours. Winds will be slow to subside but will start to ease off. Its amazing how dry it is on the west side of the storm. Folks out in Suffolk reporting 70 mph winds, 6 ft of water and can see the moon!!

Now it's 800,000 without power. Six million overall on the East Coast without power.

>>Good luck to you RM.<<

No worries. I evacuated Long Island 30 years ago, lol.

There are over 190 firefighters in Queens battle a fire that is burning at least 50 homes.

At least 50 flooded houses destroyed by NYC fire

For those with power and cable - plenty of FREE entertainment this morning on News12! You would think they are reporting on the Myan's being a couple of months off on the pending end of the world.

Agreed, this was bad but aside from power outages it is not that bad. Coastal flooding is to be expected along the South Shore.

The media was hyping it as if all of Long Island from the GSB to the Expressway would be destroyed.

My family lived through Hurricane Andrew so everything is relative to one's own life experience. Although - in true New12 fashion - I did hear two very entertaining statements this morning:
1) Sandy is Long Island's Katrina (really? Katrina?)
2) The 4' flooding of neighborhoods in Lindenhurst is of "biblical" proportion (no mention of locusts - but if I hear of it - I'm heading down to church to light a candle and say some prayers just as a precaution )

Ratings .... the sole concern of the media.

To even consider comparing this to Katrina is ridiculous. Life will be back to normal for 90% of Long Islanders by Thursday.
