People should make their way to the offices of their elected officials, local town hall, etc. Time to band together and create a scene. You really think the officials want you to get your gas back? They know if you could drive, this is exactly what you'd be doing. They like you stuck till this all "blows over".

Wow, that's nuts in Lindy. Was there really raping going on and mass looting? That's really sad.
If it's not Manhattan they usually don't care! L.I. gets treated like a redheaded stepchild.

As far as coverage down here goes, L.I. got zero....if you weren't from or have family there you would have thought L.I. was spared. Everything storm related was either from Jersey or the City. But nationally speaking NYC will always be in the media, L.I. hardly ever.

Great post Legal Diva. All true!

As much as I have my complaints about Optimum, I do have to give credit to News12 for being basically the only voice of Long Island.

No one in even eastern Queens seems to understand what happened over the border.

My dad living out of state was livid about how there was little or no mention about Long Island on the news

If it weren't for me sending info out to my family, they would have had no idea what happened on LI.

The only time LI makes the news is for mass murderers.

^^ Or for underage girls shooting their lover's wife in the face. It really is pathetic.

The question is...how to we change it? Is storming our officials' offices the way to go...or writing to the media? Or starting a petition? This has to stop.

None of my friends in California have heard anything about Long Island having any trouble whatsoever. There is nothing on the local Boston news either.

Where is Pete King? He has a big mouth.

Who cares if it makes the news? Seriously?

Suzook- You SHOULD care if LI makes the news! How are people left with nothing after Sandy going to get help if no one knows that help is needed? If there are telethons and fundraisers and supply drives going on for the victims of Sandy, how will any of that get to the people who need it here on LI if no one knows there is a need and all the help is being funneled to Jersey? Do you not realize how many people right here on LI are left without homes and have lost all of their posessions? News flash: there are plenty who lost everything. 100,000 LONG ISLAND homes lost or significantly damaged. Does that not seem news worthy to you? Do the people left without homes on LI deserve the help any less than the people who lost homes in NJ? More publicity=more help given to those who need it, plain and simple.

Are YOU serious? Where do you think assets are being directed if no one knows about it?

I watched Katie Couric's show today and there was Jon Bon Jovi talking about the Jersey shore....and getting a donation from someone courtesy of Katie
and there was Steve Buscemi talking about the Rockaways....and getting a donation from someone, courtesy of Katie.

Long Island? Crickets.
