I have a J.A. Henckles santoku knife that I got for christmas in 2011. I use it everyday. The only place I could find was G's knife sharpening in the Tri-county flea market. I used him this past may and he did a great job. Only cost $6.00. My knife needs sharpening again and I'd rather not travel to levittown if I don't have to. I am in Islip.I want a professional to sharpen my knife and don't want to do it myself and ruin my knife. Thanks

We have used VETS SHARPENING SERVICE a few times over the years. I just looked it up online and it said they were in Millers place, but I believe they actually came to us (in Smithtown) and did the sharpening right outside our house in their truck. I believe its the same company....also Sur La Table in Nassau used to sharpen knifes, and there is a new store at the Smithhaven Mall in Lake Grove - so if they did it in the other, they would probably do it at their new location...good luck! ~K
There is Allied Knife Sharpening in Lindenhurst and Cutting Edge in Huntington Village. I have used Allied and the difference between home sharpening and professional is amazing.

You're probably talking about honing with a steel rod. That is for maintenance not sharpening. If you're sharpening your knife at home using sharpening stones you would get a far better edge than anyone doing it out if a truck. It takes a small investment of $$ and time upfront to learn how to do it. It pretty easy and doesn't take that much time once you learn. YouTube is a great resource for this.
I called Allied and no one answered so I will try them on Monday.Ace sends the knives out to someone and they come back a week later. I don't want to be w/o my knife for 1 week. If I have to stick with the guy at Tri-county I will since I only need the knife sharpened once a year. Thanks for your help.
I called William Sonoma and they do not sharpen knives. I might have to stick with the guy at Tri-county which is good and since I only need it sharpened once a year I don't mind traveling to levittown.

If you are in the market for a new knife, I am extremely happy with my Shun knives, and they offer free sharpening for life. I've had good results bringing my heavily used knives back to being razor sharp.

Thanks but this knife is only 1 year old and I like Henckles knives the best. I want the whole set but I can't afford it right now. The set costs about $800.
