Okay, I honestly had no clue that my permit was expired. I parked in the handicap spot outside my job last week and got a ticket. $225 worth of ticket! It's in the Town of Babylon.

Is there chance of getting this dismissed????? I don't have the money to pay to see my orthopedist to get a letter or a renewal letter. I have 30 days to respond to the ticket.

Has anyone had experience with this?

I have a handicapped parking permit, but, since it hangs from my rearview mirror, there's no way I wouldn't know the expiration date. Why not phone the dr's office and talk with someone besides the dr to see if it can be renewed without a visit. If you have a longterm disability, your record will show it.

You can plead not guilty and explain you are in the process of getting the permit renewed.

It doesn't hang from the rearview constantly. It's actually usually on the floor between the seats or tucked into the sun visor. Just grab it and hang it off the rearview without bothering to look.

The doctor's office won't give the renewal letter without a visit. 1. They want the money for the visit and 2. They have to state they've examined me and my disability continues.

You're not going to get out of that ticket if you haven't renewed the permit. Forget that.

Is that because lawyers are honest?

Do you have health insurance? If so I don't see why you can't pay to see the doctor even if the co-pay is only $50.I'll assume the co-pay is $50 for a specialist. If this were me I'd do anything I could to get the money to see him and get my handicapp permit renewed. Maybe you can borrow the money to go.

It's not supposed to be on the mirror while driving, that in itself could be an obstruction summons. If you appear before a judge, s/he has the discretion to set the fine. I doubt it would be dismissed but it might possibly be lowered if the judge is sympathetic to your explanation.

"Only $50".... absolutely NOT in my budget right now. I have a lot of other stuff going on right now and there is not an extra "only $50" to see a specialist (unless you want to give me the $50 since $50 doesn't seem to be much money to you). By the time I try to save up the $50, it will be past the time to respond to the ticket.

Hopefully the judge will be sympathetic. It was actually only a few days expired so maybe they'll just give me a warning. I have never, ever gotten any kind of ticket (parking or moving) and I've been driving for 35 years. Maybe they'll take that into consideration.
