I know that Jericho basically has four different sections but I can't seem to get a sense of what the character and reputation of each neighborhood is. From driving through and gross generalizations, I get a sense that the two Birchwoods are nice places to live. Does anyone have insight into what the White Birch and Princeton Park areas are like? White Birch seems to have a lot of new construction and the prices generally seem lower than in the other areas. But even if it is less nice than the Birchwoods, is it still basically nice? Up-and-coming? Susceptible to crime (I know that is a relative matter)? Princeton Park seems nice from driving through, but the prices generally seem a bit lower than in the Birchwoods - not sure if there is any particular reason for that. Thanks for any insight!
I am looking for similar info. How is the area south of the northern state, just west of the train line. Also, I sparking at the Hicksville train a pain?
Birchwood is better, south of the parkway it's more like Hicksville, much of which is sliding downhill. Lots of illegal rentals in the vicinity of Broadway by the mall up to around Waldbaums. Look what's hanging around the area, esp late afternoon/early evening in summer.
White birch area is just as nice as the other areas of Jericho. That being said, White Birch is cheaper because it is divided between Jericho and Hicksville. Many people who have the idea to move to Jericho do not like the idea of sharing a neighborhood with Hicksville (which is a fine area but has an inferior school district). While the Birchwoods were historically Jewish (this is all changing), the White Birch area was notably filled with the Christian minority in Jericho. The White Birch neighborhood is very safe, pretty, well-maintained and closer to to the train, there are not many rentals at all and it is filled with families and boomers. If you can save a lot of money on a house there I'd say you are getting the better deal. If it is important to you to live in the epicenter of Jericho, and you will feel looked down upon if you are not in the more haughty taughty area, than White Birch is not for you.
