I went to shell just now on Sunrise in Islip terrace, as soon as I started pumping gas about 15 cars pulled in. If you have not filled up yet I suggest doing so very soon. BTW It was $3.95 a gallon and because I have the gas points from Stop and shop I paid $3.35 a gallon, (60 cents off).
Again I'm baffled by this. The gas shortage from sandy was caused because something like 75% of gas stations were without power for days, choking supply. That is not going to happen with this storm. Sure there will be some outages but this isn't sandy.

Well... it has happened already. Gas stations are out of gas already....wtf? I swear, what is wrong with people? Its nuts.

I think people just don't want to be caught without gas in case power goes out. If you're running on "E" and planned to go on Sat to get gas you know you gotta go today. Much harder to trudge to the gas station after a foot of snow and lug back gas. Plus, the number of people with gas generators has probably increased dramatically since Sandy.
How did you get 60 cents off? I thought the max was 30.
Not at all. I got $.80 off just this Saturday. I do it once a month before points start to expire.
Half a tank left and if I run out of gas I stay home from work. Hmmmmm....let me go start my car and let it idle.
Just like Pavlov's dogs... how sad this mob mentality is. Consider once the distributors know how simple-minded drivers around here are, they'll be only happy to pounce and take advantage.
In the event this is a huge snowfall, if Sandy-like distribution problems arise, we'll know there are systemic issues with gasoline distribution here on LI. But, over the last 30 years, LI has experienced a number of blizzards, none of which ever resulted in a such a shortage that I remember.
