Hi all! My husband and I purchased a home a little over a month ago and discovered a leak during the wonderful NEMO storm. When he started to knock the wall down to trace the pipe we followed it upstairs and discovered a kitchen hidden behind a wall with water still on and live 220v wire exposed in addition to a microwave still on (needless to say later discovered this was not the source of the leak). Is there any repercussion for the previous owner that did not disclose this information to us?
OK, I gotta ask - you discovered a kitchen behind a wall - nobody, including your home inspector, could eyeball that room and see that the dimensions didn't add up??? REALLY?!
You should contact the attorney who handled your closing but generally in NY it's "caveat emptor". If you didn't get a disclosure form at contract, the sellers probably credited you $500 in lieu of the form.
It sounds like buyer's remorse. You bought a used home. Get over it and fix the problems. If you bought your home thinking you wouldn't have to put any additional money into it, then you probably should be renting.

We found a closet hidden behind some old paneling in the living room when we were remodeling - but that is NOTHING like finding a KITCHEN....Wow!! I agree with NaleyRocks - thats more interesting then a leak!!!
Well, look - at least you didn't also find someone LIVING up there - right?
IDK, if the microwave was on, maybe someone heard them coming through the wall and left in a hurry through a secret passage.
OP I'd keep checking your house. Maybe you can find a hidden bank vault.
Sorry, but this is just cracking me up.
