My wife and I are looking for a home about mid-island (north or south doesn't matter). What would you say is the best bang for the buck town. Towns we like are west islip, islip below Montauk, east islip, Seaford, Wantagh, etc. We are not tied to any of those towns but are looking for one's with similar demographics. What towns have the best bang for the buck like the ones mentioned. School district matters, but we all know education starts as ends in the home.

Thanks for the feedback!
Quite a few houses for sale in the Country Village section of East Islip. Far enough from water and close to parkway entrance which is very convenient. They have dropped to low $300k -$400k and area has the "demographics" your are looking for.
CV is a nice area. BUT I cant stand how all the houses look the same. I get lost every time I go down there if I stray off the main feed roads. lol.
You can say that about many places on LI. I agree
