Upper middle class is more than an income, it is an educational attainment and culture I think, but if I were to guess it would probably be a general Practitioner, Lawyer, Professor type, Computer science, engineering... So I would guess 150+
Agreed- and there are no doubt some blue collar workers (contractors, etc) who actually make more money than doctors, lawyers, etc but I wouldn't consider them upper middle class. Being upper middle class has to do with so much more than income.
You can't name an exact figure for whats "upper middle class" on LI. For example, an upper middle class lifestyle in Farmingdale costs much less than one in Jericho or Manhasset.
It's not just money that determines class:
1. As for education, I would say that at least a Bachelors Degree or more is the minimum educational requirement since that puts you into the top 30% of educational attainment in America.
2. Unfortunately, the class that you grew up also plays a large role in what class you are as an adult (regardless of your mannerisms or how successful you become) since that's just how "class" works.
3. Occupation also matters, however, I wouldn't put much weight into occupation.
