If you leave at 6pm you can get to Penn Station by 6:30pm from almost everywhere most jobs are located on the island of Manhattan. If you think you won't make it then you can always catch the 7:44pm train. You have to time your day and departure accordingly. It's really not that hard. The point I am making is that the OB line is just fine for MOST people and the time difference vs. other lines is EXAGERATED! So is the whole transfer in Jamaica thing exagerated! It's not that hard.

the line itself is fine, its just the duration of the trip. I value family time and getting to see them from 8 to 10 just doesnt cut it, especially if I am going to the gym that night. I have to leave the office by 5:45 to get the 6:16, I am at 46th and 5th with no subway in the immediate vicinity.

A whole ten minutes later than the PW line. Big deal. Plus OB line is never crowded. Always get a seat and unlimited free parking at Roslyn station. Overall, I think OB line is great. Don't listen to the haters.

I have hard working night owl friends who have missed that 1:11am trains more times then they can count. also from 11:14 to 1:11am is a big gap. No clue what the OP knows. Just saying

Before anyone moves twds LI, I always reccc buyers look at the LIRR schedule in the respective area if they are commuters

THIS.

If you are looking to move to LI or you work in the city and will have to use the LIRR, always look at the schedules to see how long the commute would take you from door to door.

Also, I don't know too many people who work 9-5's and wind up leaving at 11pm.

The only people working that late should be bartenders, restaurant people, or doctors.

Everyone who works a 9-5 schedule should be able to get to Penn and get on a train by 5:30-6pm the latest.
