It happened more than half a dozen years ago. It was one neighbor who murdered another and in no way reflective of the safety of the fairly upscale neighborhood. All the parties and their families are now gone. Would this bother you? Do you think it hurts resale value if potential buyers Google the street name?
Yes, I would and if it hurts re-sale it's probably a very small minority like our witch-obsessed friend. Did this murder happen in a vortex in Suffolk County?
Houses on Long Island are so old it's impossible to know what went on in every one. When my mom was a kid in New Hampshire they used to wake their dead relatives in the front room. If it bothered me to sleep there knowing that, no one really cared!
My only hesitation would be moving into a Golub-Tinyes situation. Remember that case?
Well, since I made the original post, I learned that both the murderer's and victim's families still own the properties. Furthermore, the murderer is eligible for parole every two years and could possibly go back to living with his mother on the same street. I guess that changes the equation a bit.

All the more reason to protect your family and arm yourself.

I think the Golubs finally moved away (afer years and years and years of stubbornly refusing to go). Not sure if the Tinyes family is still there now. Interesting how both families fought viciously with each other, but still stayed. (For those unfamiliar: these two families lived on the same street, the Golub son was convicted of killing the Tinyes daughter in the Golub house.)
Update: murderer's mother still lives there, victim's family sold their home. There's still the remote possibility that the guy could get paroled and go back to living in the neighborhood.
