It's truly a joke. What does the realtor do? Open a door? Show you the place? Open a broom closet? Now, the owner might say the realtor is "weeding out undesirables for me, and I don't pay him a dime". That's just ridiculous logic. Imagine what a total loser with horrible credit and no references does...the really scummy realtors will spiff up your image to the owner, collect their fee and get outta dodge...

I do not want to pay a realtor fee. I agree with Family Guy Guy...they do nothing but collect $.

Then your best bet is CraigsList.

Most landlords list their rentals with a broker, as it does not cost them anything and they receive a lot of benefits. It relieves them of advertising, taking telephone calls, showing the property, running credit reports, etc. Here on Long Island the tenant pays the fee, so it's a no-brainer for the landlord in most cases.
