We are considering placing an offer for a home in the Caledonia section of Dix Hills but we are not familiar with Dix Hills. We found a great house with a big lot but simply can not understand why it priced so much less than a similar home in the Vanderbilt Parkway section. Can anyone help? What is different about the Caledonia section of Dix Hills? Is it a less desirable section? What about the schools? We are moving because our research shows great schools in Dix Hills. Help!!!

Vanderbilt parkway section is more commercial/borders Commack, which is also a nice area.

Dix Hills is a great school district but the town is extremely dull.

My wifes parents live there. Its a nice area. Maybe because the houses are older? a lot of the houses are 5 bedroom 3 baths with 1 acre or more of property.

Caledonia is a very nice area. I actually prefer it over Vanderbilt.

So how did your offer go?

Funny but I just searched here for Caledonia looking for similar info. I went to school nearby but never really appreciated Caledonia as I felt it was a bit off the beaten path FOR MY TASTES.

But driving through the area, its very pretty. reminds me a lot of Roslyn Estates. We were also looking over my Vanderbilt but nothing suits us in that area.

So looks like we're about to become Caledonians as well!

Don't know if it matters or not but there is large Indian/middle eastern population in that area. I used to do a lot of work over there.

Why would a large Indian/Middle eastern population matter? What if the OP is Indian/Middle eastern who cares either way.

I stated it for informational purposes. Some people might care either way.
