Sorry for the ignorant question, but I'm not a native New Yorker. I'm considering moving to Huntington, NY for a job, but part of what I'm worried about is if everyone there is basically married with children. I know that it's relatively close to New York City, but it's not so close that it would be like living in the city itself, as far as I can tell. I really can't see myself going into New York City a whole lot since my job would have pretty long hours. Would living in Huntington be like living in suburbia, where all the women are either teenagers or mothers with two kids?

Oh, also if anyone can comment on the cost of living, that would be great. City-Data lists it as astronomically high. Does that mean that it costs $10 for a loaf of bread or something?

You'll enjoy living in Huntington. I grew up there. A good mix of restaurants, bars, entertainment options. You'll be fine.

Def single people, not the majority but they are definitely there. What age range are you in, just curious?

Early to mid-30s. I'm sort of looking for women in their late 20s to early 30s. (Sorry, I know this isn't a dating site and that sounds like it. ) I'm just concerned because right now I live in a suburb of a large city and I thought it would be more single-friendly, but it's honestly just married women with kids who moved out of the city or divorced women or their kids who are in high school. Someone told me that unless I'm right in New York City, I'll just see the same population of women.

I have to be honest and say that 20s and 30s is likely not the single population living in Huntington.Maybe 20s if they still live home. But 30s, odds are they are married.

huntingtown has the paramount!!! the greatest venue for concerts i've seen in a while. The Paramount brings live concert entertainment to Long Island

the downtown may seem a bit sleepy in the day... but loads of restaurants and bars for mingling in the evening. nice place.

Huntington is about as good as it gets for that sort of thing on Long Island. Unfortunately, that's not saying much.
