White Pines, that is. Pitch Pines (the pines of the Pine Barrens) were largely unaffected by Sandy, because Pitch Pines are salt spray tolerant, White Pines are not.

I have a similar situation in my area. Some very nice pines are now having all their needles turn brown and drop. However, i'm nowhere near the salt water.

Sandy blew salt spray in for miles inland. Pretty much affected the whole island, even the north shore.
