You can count me in on my dislike for leaf blowers. They pollute with noise and air pollution. Many of these landscaping companies use large "crews" of 6 or more workers (usually illegal immigrants) who blow leaves off the property they are landscaping. Imagine the sound of 6 of these things going at once! That's what the Village of East Hills sounds like anyday between May and November. What's worse is they blow the leaves and debris into the street or on the lawn next door, they clog up storm drains and there are floods, which are a huge problem on the north shore.
I dunno how anyone can be proud to live in East Hills. Better to live in Ridge where there are real woods instead of faux parks and people do their own leaves, with a rake.

It is quite ridiculous actually, and like I mentioned in a previous post of mine, the pathetic thing is that my neighborhood consists of 40x100 properties or smaller accounting for probably over 95% of the houses (westwood, valley stream area).

Oh, and I love how so many people complain about illegal immigrants and all the stuff that goes with them, well, then mow your own damn lawn and a lot of them will go bye bye.
Right on! I agree with you completely! I think it's because of the people in Nassau getting richer as the middle class are forced out. Glen Cove road in Greenvale is a parade of landscaping trucks, they are often standing in the back in summertime, or sitting on top of eachother in the cab (dont believe me, check my photos below). I see less landscapers when I go out to places like Ridge and Middle Island in Brookhaven town, more middle class, people do their own lawns, and there's less landscaping trucks stacked up with illegal immigrants.
Besides, many folks in the pine barrens have some pine trees and scrub oaks as their lawn.

Any given spring, summer, or fall in Nassau county. The landscaping trucks add to traffic, plus isn't it dangerous to stand in the back of a moving truck?

APPLAUSE!!!!!
you got it!!
And yes its true, we pick up our own leaves out here in Ridge. Lots of my neighbors have lawn tractors with leaf sweeper attachments, quicker & much faster than 4 guys from El Salvador with leaf blowers!!!

I know of some people who have landscapers because they are not able to cut their lawns themselves for various reasons. But I also know of people who hire landscapers simply as a status symbol.

My next door neighbor uses a hose to wash the leaves in his driveway into the street. Then he goes to the end of his driveway and hoses them in front of our house. No joke, just caught him. We were wondering why there were masses of leaves in front of our house. And soaked, matted down leaves, no less. Thanks.

Compared to that I could care less about leaf blowers. As someone else said, the landscapers at least are polite and clean up after themselves. I saw another guy in my neighborhood with his electric blower just sending the stuff across the street.
