I live in Plainview (Town of Oyster Bay). Around my home it seems each house has put up a fence (some wood, some PVC) on at least one side of their property facing another's property. Is there a law that applies to determine who is responsible for a fence between them. My property facing 1 neighbor has an old fence put up by the original neighbor/owner like 50 years ago. Since then the property has been sold and old house raised. The old fence is falling apart. The new owner who is building on the property, will be removing this old fence. He claims he does not need to replace it and does not plan to have a fence between us. My Q. is if there are any regulations about requiring a neighbor to put up a fence? Thanks.

No. Unless they have a pool.
Your new neighbor's claim is valid, he does NOT need to replace the fence, if its his, he can remove it, replace it, leave it in place.
This is funny. This tops the leaf bag discussions from last year. Can I make my neighbor put up a fence. Come on listen to that question and answer it with the little guy on your right shoulder and you should be fine.
