I was wondering the same thing. He must be referring to the overhang.

Was that house not a cape in a previous life? Looks like it was dormered cheaply. If that house was intentionally framed to look that way from the start I'd be shocked. Unless it was built in the 70's.

Regardless a portico with the adjoining roofline across the front of the house would be a job requiring a permit. If done by a licensed reputable contractor 10-15k easy.

No it's not. First of all, doubtful there is a CO for the garage conversion, second of all, I don't want to come home to a fugly house every day, third I would never buy a house built on a slab. Glad it's HGTV proper on the inside.

Great idea. Pain to keep up and only certain plants will work, looks like he's got a southern or western exposure.

They have nice boxes here:

www.hooksandlattice.com - we got ours there.

is it Hempstead or Roosevelt or something? The reason I ask is because houses like this were sprouting up like weeds in areas like Wyandanch, Amityville, etc. Slab, no basement or crawlspace, exact same design, exact same color, etc.

Prepare to be shocked. It was built that way, as were several (around 20) of the houses within a 2-block radius. All built in 1949.
