Does anyone know anything about Strathmore in Dix Hills? What is the community like?

Great community-about 4 kinds of houses-ranch-farm ranch-valbrook colonial-and another 4 bedroom style colonial. In addition to your taxes you will have to pay $700 for pool/tennis club that gets deaded with the house.

What specifically are you looking to find out?

What the community is like. Would we fit in. We have elementary children who go to private school. Is it a family oriented area and would the other children play with them or exclude them since they most likely wouldn't be in the same school.

We just looked at a few homes there and we also have friends that live there.

It's a nice area but you do lose some of the neighborhood feel because most of the properties are an acre or more. Since the homes are, it's just a natural side effect. If you make use of the pool club in the summer, you will naturally meet more people from the neighborhood.

The Strathmore areas are very pretty-- the pool club is supposed to be wonderful. The only drawback is that many (most?) of the houses don't have basements.

Most people move to Dix Hills because of the top-rated schools, so most of the neighborhood kids go to public school together. Your kids may feel excluded (you might as well since school-related things are such a big part of the community). Can I ask why private school? If I was sending my kids to private school, I'm not sure Dix Hills would be where I would be looking.

Strathmore in Manhasset has a very different feel than Dix Hills...smaller properties, different house styles, overall very different feel. It would never even occur to me to compare the neighborhoods (I personally prefer the larger properties in Dix Hills but the Strathmore area of Manhasset is very charming).

Can you give me info on the schools in this neighborhood? We looked at a house over the weekend but are unfamiliar with the neighborhood and school district.
