I am sad to say my father in law only has a short time left. His wish is to die at home. He is going to need 24 hour hospice care. We were given a list of various hospice groups. Does anyone have a recommendation of a good hospice group.

We are currently using the Visiting Nurse Service of NY for my Mom (she lives in Queens). My mom is 95, and we would like to keep her at home. The hospice program monitors her at home and it gives us support with the goal of keeping Mom comfortable. They are wonderful. Perhaps contact the Visiting Nurse Service of Nassau County. They will give your family the support you will need at this difficult time. Perhaps contact a social worker who may be able to guide you through this process.

I know you said you were looking for at home care, figured I'd mention a great hospice house though in case someone is looking for a place in future threads.

When my mother was in hospice (we couldn't accommodate her at home since we lived in a small apartment), we used The Hospice Inn in Melville, associated with Hospice Care Network. They were absolutely wonderful and took care of my mother for her last 5 days.

We had quite a few rifts in my family and The Hospice Inn staff was always willing to tell my sister and I, 'If there is anyone you don't want around, let us know.' They knew we were going through a hard time because our mom was passing away at a young age (54) and that my sister and I were young. They treated my mother with respect for the last few days of her life and made life easier for my sister and I, as we dealt with losing our mom. I know they also offer massages and haircuts for those in hospice and they also offer counselor groups for family members after their loved ones pass. I couldn't say nicer things about them and have even looked into possibly volunteering time there.

The Hospice Care Network also does Hospice at Home. We were very happy with the care and attention they gave to my father in law.
