"At no point was it authorized by the department . . . I would never authorize drinking games to be held on department grounds," Grammenos said Friday. He added that the person responsible for posting the flier has been suspended from the department, though he would not say for how long or give the person's name. "They had good intentions, but it was poorly thought out," he said.
Newsday making a story out of nothing like usual.

Not an approved fundraiser so this was likely never going to actually happen. And if it did, it would have been under the table.

I've always been under the impression that it's what the "vollies" spend the majority of their time doing.

People seem to think vollies hang out in the firehouse all day waiting for calls. That's not how it works. When you sign up, you have to show up for X number of calls per year to maintain active status. Most calls are false "automatic alarm" calls, and go out to radios that all vollies carry. Whoever shows up, shows up. Some come from home, some come from work, etc.

If they're hosting a social event at the firehouse, the guys participating and getting drunk aren't the same ones that show up for a call. A firehouse is one part garage, one part social hall anyway.
