A second ago you insinuated it was because of $. Low crime, among top schools on LI... we tolerate paying stupid high taxes here because we want to be here.

So based on what exactly?
Aside from Garden City, central nassau is OK. A bit more RiffRaff in those areas.
So, I agree, this is why you would stay clear of Plainview if possible. Just stay away.
There is absolutely nothing to do in plainview. Cue the "that's why it's call PLAINview joke." It is ugly when driving around. There are too many shopping centers. And the people are usually well regarded. But, it does have a good school district and there a lot of nice young families there. I don't particularly love it, but it wouldn't be the worst place to live.
I have always been wary of using average or median income as an indication of how well-to-do a town is and think that a more reliable indication would be to somehow get the information on the ranges, for example 10% of the town's population makes 150 to 200, 15 % makes 100 to 150, this way, it's reported more granularly.
So you are saying GC is nicest in Nassau? What about Suffolk, is every town there generally prettier?
My wife and I would love to live in Garden City. That is our goal for our future home. Love the Main Street and also the community values. I don't like Hempstead though.

You can find exactly what you're looking for on factfinder2. But generally, MHI (median household income) is the standard data used to compare.
There are tree-lined streets. We noticed that was the biggest difference compared to a place like Hicksville where we lived for 8 years. I don't know what's ugly about here - it's just a lot of homes everywhere with some shopping centers thrown in. Hicksville was a lot more industrial too - a whole different aura about it. And compared to Syosset, we don't have the big commercialized areas. Talk about too many shopping centers...
