I'm thinking .. well my family is thinking about buying a house in WH, is the area safe? How is it?

OTHER QUESTIONS - 1) What school district will i be attending ?
- 2) Is the crime high? ( i live in Port Washington and the crime is pretty low, my family and i like quiet)
Thats all ;-) Oh wait ... Are there any areas to avoid? I was reading another article about Wheatley and someone said "Main Ave and Brown Blvd. are the areas to avoid" and the house we r looking at is above Main Ave.

I'm pretty sure it's Dix Hills schools which is good. The area directly bordering Wyandanch is meh but the rest of Wheatley Heights is pretty nice.

Wheatley Heights is pretty good and the houses are priced very nice. I would really recommend this town for somebody who wants to provide a top of the line education to their kids without paying outrageously overpriced numbers. It's apart of the Half Hollow Hills School district which is one of the top districts on Long Island. The houses retain their value very well.

Most of it is nice: the closer you get to Dix Hills/Melville, the more attractive it gets. Most of it has nice winding roads and pretty attractive nicely-kept houses.

As for the blocks between main ave and nicolls rd, it's not a bad area, i've never heard any crime coming from there but it's also generally not as attractive as the rest of Wheatley Heights.

The only cons of Wheatley Heights are that it borders Wyandanch and there isn't much shopping nearby.

I've very familiar with the area.

When looking at listings in "Wheatley Heights" be sure to look at the school district. Most will have Half Hollow Hills, but a smaller area is in the Wyandanch school district. Also, unfortunately I have seen some agents use "Wheatley Heights" in the description, when the mailing address is officially Wyandanch--and those homes can be in the Wyandanch school district.

Caveat emptor!

It's very close to the Walt Whitman Shops. Isn't that right Presto?
