Completely agree, Somkin' Als has good BBQ, and I say this as somebody with plenty of Southern family

Big Daddy's is good too, but it isnt really BBQ, more Cajun style. They have great alligator tail though!

Is New York Style BBQ like Georgia pizza or Texas bagels?

The kind where taxpayers are first fleeced then basted with their own fat before being smoked slowly.

I don't think there's a real definition of it. From what I gather on it, it's still southern style with less heat, more reliance on good sauces.

Smokin Al's in Massapequa. And also Famous Dave's in Westbury even though it's a (gasp!) chain restaurant. The Spare Rib used to be good but last time I went the food was bland - Commack location still open; Hicksville closed.

Echoing other peoples comments. Smokin Al's is good, been there many times. Lots and lots of food, I've had left overs for days. Their chili is really delicious.

I've only had Swingbelly's once, but they were good. Their pickle chips are so good!

I've been to Big Daddy's and as mentioned, they are more cajun and not BBQ.

I'd also not call Big Daddy's a BBQ joint... I'm not a fan of them even as a Cajun place... Was pretty terrible the last time I went there. Very overpriced IMO for what they provided.

Smokin' Als is good for BBQ... I've had it a couple of times ...Giant portions.. I had a doggy-bag each time I went.

Bobbieque in Patchogue pretty good. Smokin Al's pretty good. Famous Dave's surprisingly decent for a chain and at least consistent which is a problem with the 1st 2. Best Texas bbq on LI is in my back yard.
