Didn't you get the news? College is the new "high school" degree. Graduate school is "the new college degree". Hispanic is no longer a minority, at least not on Long Island.
I can't believe the lack of respect that some people on here have for law enforcement. I can't help but wonder how much of that is based on actual experiences with law enforcement, and how much is just petty "I don't like people who make more money than me" crap. I think police officers are important, but I wouldn't want to be one -- that's precisely the reason why they deserve what they earn.
I understand it a little more with teachers because so many of them are whiny b--ches. Still, I don't have a problem with what teachers make because the salary makes those jobs more competitive -- through my work with school districts I can see that many districts are getting better at weeding out the bad ones before they get tenured

No one has a personal issue. They are overpaid. Period. Spin it all you want. It's knee jerk apologists who spin straw arguments like you that make people resentful and ratchet up the negativity.
Neither teachers nor cops are lacking on LI. NYC is a different story. Let's not get crazy either with the weeding of the teachers. So many of the teacher hires are nepotism or knowing the right people.

You think they're overpaid. I disagree. I guess I don't really get why people think they're overpaid, just like you don't understand how people feel okay with police salaries. Some posters referenced donuts and disrespect for minorities. That hasn't been my experience, so I wondered aloud if that has been anyone else's actual experience. No need for name calling.

"Knee jerk apologist" isn't name calling...it's a valid description. I don't "think" they are overpaid. I know they are overpaid.

they make dat cheddah No one could deny it. Suffolk cop jobs are also the safest jobs in the usa. Nassau to. I don't have a problwm with the cops pay but they are ruining the job for the new bloods. Teachers make more then cops many times. Syosset district pays them half million $$$$$ cops aren't even making that and its much harder to become a cop. that debate is obvious who has it easier but the teachers I know are nice people.

I don't even know where to start with the errors in the above statement. Teachers do make a good salary on Long Island, but they are NOT making $500,000.00 a year. That would be administrators, like a superintendent, not a run of the mill teacher.
And where do you have the facts to support that it is "much harder to become a cop"? Last time I checked, to become a cop you needed a few college credits and pass a test. To become a teacher, you need a bachelor's degree, you need to student teach, you need to make impressions at the school to get hired, then you need to get a master's degree and perhaps even a doctorate in the future.
