These jobs are better than lawyer doctors now because the pensions added on to the $250,000. I won't be able to afford college with the mortgage and taxes im paying to live here . I can't think a better job for my kid to go into.

If you were the mom or dad of a cop I will bet you would never utter those words. I too would allow my kids to choose their profession.

Wow. That got heated. We're all just strangers on the internet talking about stuff. Why so angry?

You miss the point. It is not a question of police being overpaid or not it is the process of how the compensation is determined.

I am guessing you are an LI tax payer, right?
Don't you want to get the most for your money?
Isn't it better that for the same amount of total dollars allocated to the police budget to have more police than less?
There are currently about 2600 officers in the NCPD. Don't you think we could easily hire another 2600 officers from a pool of 5 million people (Nassau, Suffolk and Queens) at the same level of quality at half the compensation level?

I'll answer for you:
Yes
Yes
Yes
Yes

See? It's not about the salary per se it's how it is arrived at.

New hires on NCPD are getting paid about 1/3rd what old timers are, so theoretically you could pay as much as you are now and have 3 times as many cops.
