So, I am deciding whether or not to do a partial conversion in my home. Our current hot water set up runs through our oil fired boiler with a coil system to heat the water. Problem is, It runs out quickly, so I was going to go with a tankless water heater that is propane fired, but the cost of propane isn't much less than that of home heating oil. Is it even worth it? I have some friends in the business and I can get everything installed for cost, but is it even worth it?

Does anybody have any experience with propane vs hearing oil. I guess the efficiency is much better with the tankless, but the cost savings doesn't seem to be all that great. I have to do something one way or another so.......

Thanks !!

Why dont you go with a indirect hot water tank?

My boiler will fire in the summer months once a day for about 5-8 mins.

Since you don't have natural gas....I wouldn't bother. Propane is just too expensive. Go with the in-direct method.

I have natural gas....and a tankless hot water system. The only benefit is unlimited hot water and some more space in the utility room.

Purchase an indirect fired stainless steel storage tank (Superstor,Burnham or Weil McLain) and install it on your existing system.
