This is a strange question, but on a Saturday in November, I'll be having about 25 people over my house for a Surprise Party. I live adjacent to an Elementary school and would like to instruct guests to park somewhere other than in front of the house, so that the guest of honor doesn't recognize any of the vehicles.

Do you think it would be okay if guests parked in that small lot near my house for a few hours on a Saturday or would they get towed? Is there any one I can ask in my town?

If it's going to be a problem, I will obviously just suggest another side street for them to park on.

Just wondering if anyone knows what the rules are for this sort of thing.

I park in elementary school lots all the time off hours (even weeknights over the summer). I've never gotten towed or ticketed. Usually the signs say something to the effect of the premises being for use of residents only, but there's no way of enforcing that (and I've never seen it enforced).

I can't imagine that that would be a problem. I don't think they care unless something is going on at the school, and that's not likely on a Saturday night at an elementary school. Have a good party!

I don't think it's allowed - for safety and insurance purposes.

I agree..........it is not allowed at our district school for liability/insurance reasons.

Nonsense. Unless school has gated parking lot and/or signs posted stating No Parking residents are permitted to park in school lot. As a school custodian for many years neighbors have done so and some have even asked permission to do so for parties/new driveways/hurricanes etc.

I would call the school and find out. Most schools have security and if they see a bunch of cars parked there, they may end up calling the cops and people could be ticketed for parking on private property. Yes, I get it's a SCHOOL but it is not a public parking lot.

Just call the school and ask. Simple solution.
