So for the X months prior to the ACA becoming law, were your premiums constantly going down?

No, it was basically the same price for the previous three years that I had this policy. Then it jumped tremendously. Digging deeper into it, the increases were a direct result of the upcoming affordable healthcare act.

10000% true. My wife works for a major hospital as an RN. Her staff was cut about 25% because they said they are not receiving enough reimbursements ( due to Obamacare ) from the insurance companies to pay for salaries. Which in effect comes down to patient care.

Yes, and you will find low waged and inexperienced foreign employees replacing these qualified RNs and other staff in the hospital. Situation that will only get worse...

False. Explain with actual proof for once. We'd sincerely like to know.

Who would have thunk it?!
Certain elements of the ACA have been in effect since:

2010 -- Able to have adult children up to the age of 26 on parent's policy; no copays for mammograms and colonoscopies.

1/1/2013: There's a 2.3% excise tax on medical devices.

Same as the last guy. False. Explain with actual proof. We'd sincerely like to know. There is NOTHING in ACA (not even implemented yet) that would affect reimbursements for regular employer or private insurance plans and there ARE NO EXCHANGE plans yet. Are you sure she's not talking about MEDICARE or MEDICAID reimbursements? Has NOTHING to do with ACA, but at least that could possibly make sense.

Late summer 2012 I received a letter from my then insurance company (Empire BCBC) stating the reasons for the increase in my renewal premium. The first reason was costs, the second reason was the ACA, the third reason was an increase in mental health benefits brought about by a law named after a person.

You have to remember that elements of the ACA have been gradually incorporated over the last couple of years.

And how does that parlay into "25%" cuts in staffing?! Most plans had low or no copays for preventative exams already. Consult, yes, exam no. That hasn't changed despite the "devastation" talk.

Another load of propaganda. $15k billable for a $350 dollar med device was happening long before a 2.3% tax. Blatant right wing talking point. Device makers (and their lobby) has been a major part of gouging EVERYONE in the system for years. While the eyes were on Pharma, device makers were and still are looting the store. A tax on them is part of the solution ....AS LONG AS OTHER COSTS ARE CONTAINED...and that's the tough part with all the divisiveness. Too many lobbyists, lawyers and insurance companies in the pie to affect real change.

Still, the misinfo is amazing.

No, I completely understand that the ACA has been slowly rolling out over the past few years. ACA also limited the % of money that can be used for non-care expenses (i.e. advertising, salaries, etc.). Who knows if BCBS was raising the premiums to make some of that back.
