Anyone try shopping the healthcare exchange for a policy under the new healthcare act that came effective October 1st?

We hear both sides argue on the news and while I havey own opinions, I'm curious to anyone that actually is taking advantage of the benefits.
It appears for self employeed it could be a significant savings, although I do not know if big difference between self employee and small business owner providing coverage for employyees. Looks like if you are solo employeed for yourself and had been paying your own policy this new exchange could save you money.

On the otherwise, these providers are in business to make money so if lowering or some, one would believe and offset has to be on others to continue the same level of profitability.

Feel free to expand on the topic or just state your opinions even if you have no personal involvement with the new healthcare act

Besides the cost, look at the deductibles!

In my current state there is only one provider - Blue Cross in our Health "marketplace". Marketplace????? Monopoly is more like it.

The deductibles are outrageous.

Example. $30,000 a year .... premium after tax credits is $155 a month.

However, the deductible is $6300!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

God forbid somebody needs an operation!

Will buy from exchange as am self employed. Waiting to see what network of providers is available with each plan ( not all providers of insurance co will be in network for Obamacare policies).
It has the potential to save some of my deductible compared to what I previously paid, but the premiums aren't as good as I had hoped, honestly. Also kids have to be on healthy ny plan which doesn't thrill me.

Seems to me we could have done it much simpler by just giving people who buy their own insurance the same tax credit businesses get by purchasing insurance for their employees.

Yeah I see what you mean. Better they go without insurance for that operation than to deal with a 6300$ deductible.

I have been trying to get onto the site for several days. I have been able to initiate registration, but when it comes time to enter my state and county, the page freezes. I am curious to see what dreck I will be stuck with once my current carrier leaves the small business market in NY.

Is that premium and deductible just for you or a family?

What is $30k? If it's $30k, how is it $155/mo? $155/mo is super low and clearly would have high deductibles. Even public employees with great plans pay more than $155/mo. I pay $380/mo. So if somebody DOESN'T need an operation they picked a heckuva great plan for routine and catastrophic care, without worrying about rate hikes or pre-existing conditions. Or they could stick to the old idea: have the operation and get their life's credit wrecked for over 6 figures in cost. $155/mo plus $6300 sounds like a bargain to me.

Their state (RI) shows that even the Gold plan is pretty cheap. I keyed in some garbage data (37yo individual making 25k/yr) and "I" can get BCBSRI PPO for 183/mo with dental. Deductible is 1500 for an individual.

EDIT: I Keyed in the given 30k/yr income and even on the Bronze plan, the max deductible for an individual is 5800. I think I see what they are talking about: the MOOP expense is $6,350.
