For the unaware, he announced a surprise show today—he's playing tomorrow night at The Paramount in Huntington for LI Cares. Tickets went on sale at noon, but in less than a minute they were sold out. Now I'm seeing single tickets going for as high as $500 on eBay and Craigslist—and over $400 for Skybar tix!
Would be nice to be able to drop that kind of money on tickets, but I don't feel right putting $400 in some opportunist's pocket when the show is for charity.

I couldn't think of a concert I'd be less interested in seeing, charity or not.
The obsession LI has with this guy is staggering..
Good to see he's doing it for charity though, atoning for wrapping his cars around trees and being allowed to walk away by star struck cops.

About half an hour after the sale, a block of four was sold on eBay for over $1,700.

yes, all 150 million of his record sales over the years have been in Nassau and Suffolk. Isn't that amazing? Imagine how many he would have sold if the rest of the world liked his music!

Oh you're just jealous he had Christie Brinkley and you were only lucky to date Roseann Barr.

Love ya dman for saying what had to be said for the post dinosaur rock generation. That said, I like Billy Joel. The Stranger is a pretty amazing record. He did a whole lot of drunken, top 40 dreck too.
Have to say, the wife dragged me out to see him w/ Elton at Nassau Coliseum a few years ago and Elton sounded horrible and his band was in a coma. By comparison, Joel and band sounded fresh as a daisy and actually rocked a bit. Hearing 18,000 sing Piano Man acapella while the band just stood and stared was pretty impressive for any songwriter/musician to see. Not just the 1st verse...The whole damn song. It was pretty wild.
I am a lot more forgiving of classic AOR these days (since they're all dying off) but Joel and Springsteen fans are the most insanely loyal and annoying meatheads around.

I'm only a casual fan of his, but anyway you slice it the guy is rock/pop royalty at this point. And, I'll second Mongoose by saying he still sounds really good, certainly better than many of his peers from that era (he pretty much blew them all off the stage at the Sandy relief concert last year at MSG).
