Has anybody heard any news about either a Wegmans or a Stu Leonards supermarket coming to LI.. We sure need either one/or both would be GREAT..
I've heard Wegmans is awesome and prices are great. and Stu Leonards . is an 'experience one needs to check out.. Heard such great things about them both.
With alot of empty stores.. is there an 'talk' of either of them coming to LI anytime soon?
My sister in NJ talks about going to Wegmans about 3-5 times a week. Their prices are unbeatable. and their daily meals (prepared meals) are so inexpensive.. Makes me so jealous.. I want one HERE. LOL
From what I remember, the Stew Leanards Supermarket that was proposed on Route 110 in Farmingdale was not constructed due to height restrictions since it was in the flying path of Republic Airport. The location is still vacant, too bad since I was really looking forward to it!
You can forget Wegman's, they have zero interest in expanding beyond where they are now. This subject has been beaten to death on my home forum and someone there actually knows the family. Never gonna happen.
Wegmans is one of my favorite supermarkets, I wish they were everywhere! Rumor has it that some supermarket chains have an agreement with Wegmans not to open there. I can see why if that is true, I bet if Wegmans ever came to LI they would put King Kullen, Waldbaums, and Pathmark out of business.
I'd say Fairway is comparable to Wegmans. If Wegmans won't come to LI then I hope Fairways continues to expand.
I would consider Wegmans to be 1 slot below both Stew Leonards and Fairway in prices. Wegmans has some of the most reasonable prices I've seen out there, considering how attractive their stores are. A few years back I wrote an email to their real estate department and was advised that Wegmans is not looking to expand in the Long Island area. At this point, I don't even think they're expanding in New Jersey but are instead concentrating on the mid-Atlantic states (i.e. Maryland, Virginia). To say the island will never see a Wegmans is probably pretty accurate.
