//www.city-data.com/forum/house...questions.html - note post #8 (and #12) tells me it's not a water heater but a "storage tank". I thought what I had there was an indirect just like you mention (has a separate zone and runs off the boiler). So color me confused too. In the end, we're going to leave it all for now as we're still getting plenty of hot water.
What size tank are you getting for that $5500? Only 1 guy out of 5 was willing to swap into existing pipes and $5500 was only going to get us a 35gal indirect.
tankless is a coil isn't it? My parents have that with their oil system. Ironically 1 plumber told me they can't do that for gas but that wasn't true either.
40 gal would be tops. I believe the Buderus is a 32gal but holds roughly the same as most 40gals by design. Wish I could fit bigger but don't have the clearance.
Showers are about 1 1/2 - 2 gallons per minute these days(GPM).
Dishwashers are about 1/2 to 1 GPM.
I have a 40 gallon tank and can take multiple showers, run the dishwasher and wash clothes simultaneous with no problems. You have to remember when the storage tank drops 10 gallons the boiler will fire to produce more hot water.
