I am moving to oceanside and I always hear that the schools are great. My question is what makes them so great? Also are there differences between the elementary schools (is one better than the next)? And how do I know which school my son will go to?

The general consensus is that schools 9 and 8 are preferred.

You will get the most accurate answer for this from the Transportation Department of the School District.

Schools are not great. They are "ok". They do what they need to do to keep the #'s up to justify the salaries. Actually in reality the district is mediocre at best. It's all an illusion to keep the money rolling in.

Oceanside reminds me a bit of Huntington in that there are some high achieving students (National Merit Finalists, etc) and some very involved parents but overall their test scores don't look so good and their reputations have declined.

I think Oceanside is a diverse, solid, district. You'll be happy.
