Am traveling to New York next week to meet with one of the local hospitals. Am curious about Nassau County hospitals reputations. Which is the best? Are some better than others at different services, e.g., cancer? Are any of them doing any advertising that you remember?

Wouldn't that be either LIJ or North Shore? I know LIJ does particularly well when it comes to neurological tumors.

Nassau Communities Hospital is a small regional establishment. St. Francis is one of the best hospitals in the US for cardiac issues. North Shore is probably the one with the biggest overall reputation, followed by Winthrop. Long Island Jewish is really in Queens, not Nassau County and was combined with North Shore to form the North Shore Long Island Jewish Health system. Both are teaching hospitals with much research going on. But Winthrop is pretty big too and a lot of people like them for maternity.

Steve and Alexandra Cohen hospital is a specialty hospital for children. It is part of the North Shore LIJ hospital network.

St. Francis is tops for cardiac care and it was immaculate the one time I visited.

Steve and Alex established a children's pediatric ER at LIJ. They established a bigger children's wing earlier at Columbia Pres.

What is your point? That's the current name of the hospital, the whole hospital not just the ER. And yes, I know it was previously called Schneider's Children's hospital. The poster asked the name of the best hospitals in Nassau.

From their website:
"Welcome to Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children's Medical Center of New York, where we are dedicated to providing the highest levels of care in meeting the special needs of children, from premature babies to adolescents. The specialists in our national and international programs cover an entire range of specialties including: Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery, Stem Cell (Bone Marrow) Transplantation.

At Cohen Children’s Medical Center, we’ve created a warm and bright environment to make your child’s stay with us as pleasant and comfortable as possible. Our 164-bed hospital opened in 1983 as the New York metropolitan area’s only hospital designed exclusively for children. Today we are the largest provider of pediatric health services in New York State. We serve 1.8 million children in Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk counties.

State-of-the-art care for children's medical, surgical, psychiatric and dental needs are provided in both inpatient and outpatient settings. "

My experience with LIJ is that it is a pretty crappy hospital with less than top notch doctors. I wouldn't recommend anyone go there for anything serious or complicated.

Thanks, everyone. This is helpful. Not getting a lot about South Nassau Communities, so I'm assuming it's probably very local -- Oceanside and immediate area.
