I remember traveling Sunrise Hwy, going thru a questionable area and, after leaving, saying..."Huh. So that was Oceanside."

Close enough. Go hang in parts of Wheatley Heights and tell me it's not Wyandanch. Oceanside has some very nice areas...but it's also got areas that may as well be Baldwin, Roosevelt, RVC and Freeport. But you go ahead and point out those borders. The skells never cross them.

does anybody from Oceanside in the late 50's-early 1960's remember a severely disabled man, I believe his name may have been Joe, who used to ride his bicycle around Oceanside? He live across from School 8.

Keep this thread going with updates!
1. Joe's crab shack has closed.
2. Lawson Pub was renamed Butera and then renamed Noble.
3. There is a great new gastropub in town, called EAT. Awesome drinks and food.
4. We now have Petco and PetSmart!
5. Mitchell's diner is out and in its place is Bank of America. So the town has to diner.
6. Waldbaum's has closed, no permanent store in its place. They had a pop-up Christmas for the holidays in that space.
7. Camp DeBaun no more, in its place is another Stop and Shop.

Where have all the diners gone?,
East bay
Rainbow
Mitchell's
Pantry
East Rockaway
Wife and I now go to Lynbrook's diner
That's my biggest gripe, no more diners, a bank on every corner for some reason but no diners
The Lincoln shopping center is half empty and the old VFW on Atlantic appears to be slated for something, more banks?
Interesting stuff posted by others, grew up in Oside then moved away then came back, probably leaving after retirement

I moved in '77, my parents moved in '83, only been back a few times since. Been told it's not the same Oceanside we grew up in. Guess those were the good ole days.

It's not the same. Definitely on the downward spiral.
Unless you are from Queens, then it's possibly an upgrade.
