Yes. IF you want something free that's powerful milestone sys has xpprotect go that does everything . the only limit is it only does 8 cameras. It has remote apps for ios, android, blackberry and wp8. The app even allows you to record video with your cellphone and send it back to the video server.

No, they have motion sensor activation. The software lets you control the sensitivity of the motion sensors.

As far as the alarm goes, I looked into Slomans, ADT and most big names... But the $30-$40 monitoring fee, plus a contract was a turn off. They also have many bad reviews regarding customer service. Ive decided on SimpliSafe. You can buy the system on Amazon in any configuration you need, and set it up yourseld in 15 minutes since its completely wireless. The optional monitoring is only $15 / mo..

Cameras. Im going to go with an 8 camera wired system with the cameras set for motion activated recording. Specifically i will be buying this system :

8 Channel Security Camera Systems | Surveillance (they quoted me a better price when I emailed them)

This system requires a monitor be hooked up only for the initial setup and configuration. After that you can disconnect the monitor and hide the DVR in a place nobody would find it. The DVR will be on your network, so you can monitor and access all video, both live and recorded, from your smartphone, tablet or PC from anywhere in the world.

So, if someone see's the infrared cameras glowing at night and still decides to enter my home, the alarm will trip, cameras will start recording, central station monitor will dispatch police, I will get notifications on my phone that something is going on and I will be able to watch live, or if I am home, exercise my 2nd amendment rights......

Regards

Check out Alarmrelay.net, even cheaper monthly monitoring. Have been using them almost a year now, no complaints.

I have both alarm and cameras plus signs in my front yard stating that.
