So, let me get this right. There was a 2 1/2 - 3 hour parade on television this morning to celebrate the start of the holiday season. There are thousands lining the streets, happy and cheering. There are hundred of VOLUNTEERS working the parade strictly for the happiness of others. And you? All you can take away is that there were 2 songs you dislike.

I have an idea: Instead of complaining, why don't you appreciate what you have and get out there at Christmastime and volunteer in a food pantry or a soup kitchen or do an "adopt-a-family"? This way, when you think of complaining about a seasonal parade, you'll remember there are MILLIONS out there who don't even get to see the parade, no less sit down with family and shovel disgusting amounts of food down their throats.

I didn't watch the parade but wanted to hear the song the OP was talking about. It's a beautiful song:

Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings - "Ain't No Chimneys In The Projects" - YouTube

As for the other song, it's not called "I want a pleasure bang". It's called "Banga Banga" by some new Justin Beiber-type performer.

I watched part of the parade this morning and was just a bit disappointed that it was more about dancing and singing and performances than about floats and a real parade.

/\

I watched it also and get turned off by the excessive commericials and running commentary. I would really just enjoy watching the bands and listening...

It is a basically a three hour commercial for Broadway shows now, all lip-sync-ed, which is pretty bad. But for me, it is something I have watched since I was a kid and my kids enjoy it now (mostly the balloons) so the tradition of watching it is kind of cool. Does the whole country actually watch it?

What I am more interested in is does anyone watch the Dog Show that is on right after? I love dogs, but that show is f-ing lame.

Watching the parade is a tradition my wife started years ago. She turns it on at 9am, starts cooking and I go outside and rake the backyard.Works great for both of us.

I usually don't watch it. If I'm in the mood, I'll have it on for background noise and only stop to watch if one of the B'way shows I like is performing. Other than that, I think it's great for the little kids to get excited over the balloon characters and Santa or for teens to get over the bands, singers, and B'way shows.
