First, I don't know where I should put this threat... since I live in Long Island. I decided to ask this simple question here.

It's simple question but I don't know how to find the answer.

Rent $960 now and it will go to $1000 soon. so it will increase by $40.00 next month.
How do I find the percentage? Can some one help me?

Thanks.

Percent change = amount of the change / original amount x 100

(40/960)100

I went straight for moving the decimal point, as opposed to showing all my work. Points lost lol

No insult to the OP but it amazes me sometimes how many people have problems with basic math.

One of the managers at my job had to ask me the same question to calculate the percentages of raises.

I can sympathize. Got caught in the switch over to the "new" math. The fractions got lost in the shuffle. To this day I am "math challenged". Can also recall the frustration my mom had. She did a division calculation in 3 lines and I had to draw this blasted division thing, " ( " with a line across the top and to the right and then down the page to show your work. It took me about 10 lines. GRRRRRR.
