When I was a kid, my buddy and I would canvas the neighborhood shoveling driveways looking to make a few bucks. As I get older I would like to start hiring these young chaps to do my driveway, but you never see them anymore. Do these kids not need money?
It's now central American day laborers who come asking if you want to be shoveled out. They're not lazy, that's for sure.
Yes, an old pick up pulled up with three men wanting to shovel. No kids asked. I opted to be frugal and do it myself. Now, if we ever get a major dumping I may let them. It didn't look like much to me but the shovel got heavier and heavier by the time I was done :-)

This was actually lighter and fluffier and as a result easier to shovel than usual. With that being said it does seem to get heavier as you shovel more of it, though it could also depend on where you were shoveling at the end. If you finished near the sidewalks, end of driveway, etc, you were also likely shoveling the snow that was plowed from the road, which tends to be a bit heavier than the rest.
Ooh. I have cooking spray. It may have been me. I ended with the sidewalk by the street and driveway. It just got plain heavy. It was easier to do the top half and then do the half underneath than try to get to the cement with one shovel. I don't see anymore real snow in the forecast.

There were kids walking up and down my block with shovels, but they were a little late.
