looking for recommendations in Suffolk for an oil tank cleaning co. We have had some issues since last year with sludge being sucked up and and shutting down our heat. We had a top fill installed last year as recommended by our oil co and no problems till last week, coldest day so far it sucked up sludge and the system wouldn't go on. I was told it might be good to have the tank cleaned and that would get all the sludge off the bottom, if anyone has experience with tank cleaning or can recommend a reliable co it would be appreciated.

I'm thinking the tank would need to be empty or close to it to perform any type of cleaning. Sludge normally is not a problem unless tank is frequently run low or run out of fuel. Fill-ups can create a sludge issue, again more so if tank is run low, which is why it is recommended to shut system down during fill and leave off for a while so sludge & sediment can settle back down to bottom of tank.

To answer your question I would start with contacting some oil companies.

you might be better off replacing your tank than trying to clean one . If you decide to clean the existing one you will need to move the remaining oil to another tank . Seems to be a lot of labor involved to cleaning a tank .....Keep us updated ....

We are talking about almost 20-30 gallons of oil that is unusable in a 275 gallon tank. This is normal and whoever is servicing your system should tell you so. If you get it serviced annually and don't let it run below an 1/8th of a tank you shouldn't have a problem.
