I had to laugh thinking of the post office motto given that they did not attempt to deliver mail in my neighborhood the last two days because of the snow. I can understand yesterday but today is a stretch given that Monday was a holiday. So last mail was Saturday and then presumably tomorrow Thursday. I called to see what's going on and the guy said too many people didn't come in so they didn't send anyone on the route.
Not in my neighborhood. They delivered on both days, even in the midst of yesterday's storm (we rec'd our mail around 4 PM, which was just when the snow was picking up).

Yeah I thought it was unusual especially missing today. Also Newsday didn't deliver today. No big deal but the roads were passable.

I don't know who you spoke to but you got a BS answer. If the post office is short people, they borrow from other offices. If no one is available, they generally break up routes. I'm not sure if you are at the beginning or the end of your route but some offices will set a time to be back to the office during inclement weather. As far as today, as long as you shoveled by your box, you should have got mail if there was any. The volume was extremely light today because the processing plant/machines were down, and incoming mail from flights(air mail) as well so the letter volume would have reflected that.
I'd say baloney too. My neighbor -a postal carrier is always being given partial routes to complete for other carriers who are absent. He hates it, but that's his job. So he does his own route +.
My own route doesn't have an assigned carrier, so it is split up among 3 different carriers.
Mail both days. Today, I was just finished shoveling, including access to my, and a couple of minutes later the mailman delivered!
