I grew up in Huntington and moved to the Poconos when my parents split. I have children myself and recently lost my husband to cancer. I will be selling my home next Spring and need a new start. I'm a widow at 27 and want to either move back to Long Island, Florida and California. Anyone in a similar situation? I don't want to be scarred away from Huntington because of the cost. I have an education and know what the city can offer financially. hat is the average home rental for a 3 bedroom out there now?
I'm so sorry for your loss. Search craigslist to get a sample of rental rates. I hope your husband had life insurance because you will need a lump sum to get started. Also, the commute to Manhattan from Huntington would be very difficult. How will you manage if one of the kids is sick at school and needs you to come get him? It would be hours before you could get there.
This plan may not be the best route for you. Maybe you could find a shorter, more mother-friendly commute from Queens or Jersey City.

How will you manage if one of the kids is sick at school and needs you to come get him? It would be hours before you could get there.
I have done that as a single mom for years and years (to Babylon) . It is very very hard, but do-able if you have a little community support from friends.
What is the average home rental for a 3 bedroom out there now?
Figure about 2000 per month plus utilities.
