Basically anything east of Huntington (north shore) or Massapequa Park (south shore) is over an hour commute to Manhattan during rush hours. I'm in Huntington (SCWA) and we have electronic metering for water. National Grid announced it would be installing smart meters for gas over the next couple of years.
Everyone will have smart meters soon. Suffolk County Water Authority is only one of the many. No need to worry, the broadcast is 900 MHz or 2.4 GHz same as wireless headphones in many households today. You get more EMF from a cell phone next to your head than these home utility units. There can even be outside installations under ground away from the house if you are concerned. I would worry if I were in an apartment building or a city location where you have multiple devices in the same location amplifying the waves. But not a single family home. LOL
