I think you might be mistaken at what transpired in court. It is rare that the court will remove all points for a guilty plea. They will reduce or waive fines and maybe reduce points down from the 6 if you show up in court and politely plead (especially for a 1st offense), but going from a 6 point offense down to 2 is more likely, not zero. Apparently they just took your plea at face value, gave the max fine and points and you said OK. First, contact the court clerk and see what the adjudication was (maybe they did reduce the points and it was reported wrong to DMV). More likely a defensive driving class is your best bet to get the points down. Put the kids in boosters. A seat belt on a too small child is almost as bad as none at all.

Taking the driving course only helps you as far as the dmv internal figuring for when you lose your license for points..

Your insurer still sees your actual amount of ponts and sees no reduction. .

Learn from this and move on, forget the lawyer.
From personal experience, even after you do the course, it doesn't necessarily remove the points if you don't have 11 already. I went to the DMV with my course completion cert and they said it doesn't do anything for just the 4 points I got from the speeding ticket.

Accident prevention (course) is still listed as a line item on my "policy savings". It's just that the speeding ticket is ALSO figured in. As far as I understand it, DO also do the course otherwise you'll pay even more.

the course gets you a discount from your insurer but has nothing to do with removing the points from your record or the surcharges the insurer may hit you with..

the point removal is strictly seen internally by dmv and no one else.
