Actually, there is one new house in the OP's price range in Huntington - and not at all "in a not great area". It's close to downtown Huntington and a quick ride to the LIRR. 4 BR; 2 1/2 ba; 2 fireplaces; CAC; 1-car garage; "green" features, etc. The owner/builder will even consider financing
I just checked mls- I didn't think that was considered a great area? My friend lives a couple of blocks away & can't wait to move. She says there are too many renters around there & she doesn't like the vibe of the area. You think its actually an ok area? I don't have personal experience with the neighborhood other than thru my friend & from driving on Woodhull & Nassau.

If I change my requirement from new home to used home (not older than 1975 - 1980). Where I can find a good one? Any recommendations?

I am looking for new construction homes (3 bed + 2 bath (2.5 preferred)). 3 parking required (1 inside). My budget is around 500k - 600K. I am looking for good school district. I prefer Single family home. It should be close to Penn station, 50 min - 1 hour by train is fine.

Any suggestions? I would prefer nassau county ny, but can consider suffolk county, but not far from NYC.

What is your budget for taxes? That makes a big difference in where you can search for a house.

Not sure you'll get that much house in a very good district with $10-12k in taxes. For instance, you can find that size house in Seaford, which is a very good district but taxes are over $12k.

You may find what you're looking for in Bellmore. That was one of my favorite neighborhoods when I was househunting but I wanted to stay closer to Queens for our commutes. I'm in Franklin Square now. You can probably find what you want in Franklin Sq within that tax range. The schools are very good. Not "stellar" like Syosset or Jericho but still very good.

Search different towns on MLSLI.com. If they don't list the estimated taxes, you can search on mynassauproperty.com for an estimate.

I do not prefer living on the shore end due to sandy and similar storm issues. Any other suggestions? How is Levittown, Bethpage and New Hyde Park NY?

I'm no where near water. The only damage in our neighborhood was fallen trees and power outages. Very few homes had roof damage. We never have flooding even with the past hurricanes and Nor' easters.

Levittown, Bethpage and NHP are all very good towns with very good schools but I don't know if you'll find the size home you want with your budget especially in New Hyde Park. And definitely not new construction. You may find old capes or colonials with 3 beds/2 baths but they're not very big. See the homes on this link...just to get an idea

Lindenhurst NY has average school rating of 7/10. Is that good?
