Hi, long-time lurker but first-time poster.

I live in Brentwood (a true hellhole) and plan to move to Nassau County in the summer, preferably within 10-15 minutes of Queens.

The plan for moving to Nassau Country involves the following criteria:

1.) Ethnically diverse area with a low-crime rate.

2.) No high-end areas such as Manhasset or parts of Garden City.

3.) Easily accessible to LIRR or NICE bus that can reach the NYC boros.

4.) Top level, high-standard, academically top-notch high school(s).

5.) Reasonable (by NYC/LI standards) rental prices for housing.

Thanks! I look forward to the responses as I work on my research.

#4 & 5 are tough. Top notch schools and reasonable rentals are GENERALLY mutually exclusive.

Valley Stream - part of Valley Stream (I believe it may be called the Gibson area, but I'm sure others will correct me if I'm wrong) is zoned for Hewlett, which is a top-notch district.

Unfortunately, you're not going to get "top level, high-standard, academically top-notch high school(s)" while simultaneously meeting the criteria of "no high-end areas such as Manhasset or parts of Garden City."

However, try Mineola or Westbury for ease of access into the city. Both areas are ethnically diverse. Trains in Mineola run very frequently during rush hour, so if you miss one, it won't cause you to curse yourself while you wait another half hour to an hour for the next one.
