No worries, aside from the proximity to middle country rd. that area is fine.

Area is solid middle/working class. From personal experience I can say the area is fine and if you are renting there is absolutely nothing you can't wait a year or two to move from. My main issue is road noise, but that is specific to the street. All immediate neighbors are good people....their kids are generally going to college/watch my pets when away. Are there are few sketchy/self-centered people in a mile radius...yes....but so far as have a safe and affordable area that is what it is.

Some real info.

I've lived in Selden/Coram my entire life. I hung out in Selden and Centereach. The area is really nice, a lot of local parks for your daughter. Most likely would go to Hawkins Elementary, or Stage Coach which is apart of the Middle Country School District. It's a decent school district, rated 7/10 on GreatSchools.org. There is a lot of shopping right over by Middle Country Road in that area, currently Independent Plaza which has King Kullen, Cafe Amici Pizza, Home Depot and other shops, Chinese food, Indian Food I believe. Across Boyle is a Shoprite, Bobs Clothing, RiteAid and a few other shops. Pretty close to the Mall in Lake Grove about 2 towns over. Centereach is a great place for shopping. Local Grocery Stores, Furniture Stores, Hardware Stores, I mean everything on Middle Country Road. Just be careful driving, and watch the young drivers on the side roads, they drive like maniacs. Ya know, stop signs don't exist, don't signal, abrupt stops and the like. Most people are friendly and respectable.

Your commute to work will be rather quick, depending on the time you will be working. It's probably about 5-6 Miles away. If you work early, 7AM or 8AM, I'd give yourself about 15 minutes to get there, otherwise it would only take about 5-8 Minutes to get to work.

I can't really think of more, but it really is a nice place.

Middle country school district is Not one of the better school districts around, Connetquot or Sachem are much better, i know you have a young daughter as do we and we almost bought over by Newfield HS, if you care about schools then don't do it , the areas are ok but schools not so much..Substitute schools for commute... will be well worth it in the long run.

When I was looking to buy in 2004, all of the real estate agents were steering me away because I was white. I wound up buying in Holtsville, which may be a notch or two higher than Selden. If it's only for two years, you should be fine though. What happens after the two years are over?
