I am considering moving to one of the Avalon rental developments, either Glen Cove, Melville or Smithtown. I'm somewhat familiar with each of the areas and its pluses and minuses for my commute/family situation but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with these developments, knows anyone who lives there, etc and has any info, good, bad or indifferent. Thanks in advance!

Generally they seem to be very nice, well managed properties. "Luxury" perhaps, with some good amenties like pools, etc. Specifically on LI, I think they are hard to beat for a rental apt.

I am familiar with the Melville and Smithtown area complexes. They are often used as executive transition housing for some of the companies on the island. The ones in Melville are quite nice, but in a busier area relative to Smithtown. Of course Melville is closer to the city, the 110 corridor, etc. They are close to luxury level.
I currently live in Avalon in Westchester. The complex itself is fairly well maintained and clean but I think it's heavily overpriced for what you get. The management is stupid and lazy. They treat tenants like cattle. They won't move their butts until you come and yell at them. I always had to recalculate my bills because they NEVER get it right.
Maybe they're better on LI but I would avoid them.
