My husband grew up in this town and I attended college here. We both love the area. We bought the crappiest house on the street and paid peanuts compared to people who didn't do that. It didn't hurt that the area has a decent school district, but the school district was not the determining factor in our purchase.
Stuck here.
House worth less than I paid. Fortunately the prices are creeping up close to what I paid. The market still blows. Sandy. And, I got one more kid to finish High School.
Struggle and deal for 2 more years and then I'm out.
I chose "other" because although I chose my present home based on the affordability of the property taxes, I do not consider it to be a "nicer home"; it was a big step down.
IMHO a better poll construction would have been to have the choices broken down as:
School district
Nicer or larger home
Affordability of property taxes
Downsizing in retirement
Other
we were looking in a few top school districts but this town had more pull because:
grew up here, went to the schools here (parents moved us here in the 80s because of relatives' kids being here)
parents are still here (helped a lot with infants/toddlers)
nice safe town
central to everything and I like burbs living
costs "too much" but the schools are top 5 so we endure
